In re: Steven E

New York state tax division employee with delusional disorder, fired after being deemed a risk for violence, challenged the ruling. At the request of his attorney, The Forensic Panel appraised his fitness for duty and risk for violence. The case was representative of a number of such employment-related cases presenting for our attention, as the examinee had an illness but could contribute at the workplace without risk if compliant with treatment.

Negotiation with the examinee and penetration of his denial saved his job and resolved the case. The evaluation culminated in his agreement to take antipsychotic medication as part of an agreement to return to his position, and the matter resolved without further legal proceedings.
