Following the unexpected passing of a senior government attorney in a northeastern state who was found under a train in early morning hours, The Forensic Panel was engaged by the Chief Medical Examiner to review records, interview witnesses, and to contribute a psychological autopsy in a death investigation. The case was complicated by the family’s desire to collect an insurance claim and their being invested in findings that would support an accidental cause of death.
The Panel worked to overcome obstacles presented by the decedent’s earlier unreported history and information concealed by other examiners who had filed earlier reports to unearth facts pertinent to the resolution of this questioned death.
