Manfred GreiffensteinContact Dr. Greiffenstein

Manfred Greiffenstein, Ph.D., ABPP, CN, has 30 years of training and experience in neuropsychological diagnosis, rehabilitation, forensic consulting and research. In a manner found in very few, he uniquely bridges the divide between clinical neuropsychology, forensic neuropsychology and applied forensic research – especially important given the disconnect that often exists between clinical and forensic contexts. Dr. Greiffenstein’s professional orthodoxy, sophistication and understanding of research and its real world significance imbue his work and that which he peer reviews with particular relevance.

Board Certified in Clinical Neuropsychology, Forensic Psychology and Sleep Medicine, his areas of expertise in applied legal settings include memory disorders, neurotoxic torts, closed head and other traumatic brain injury, emotional injury, deception and malingering, cognitive factors in legal competency (testamentary, standing trial, criminal culpability), among others. His expertise in sleep disorders derives from 20 years of assessing and treating persons with a variety of problems including narcolepsy and obstructive sleep apnea. The area of sleep disorders has legal applications, especially the role of sleep and vigilance in industrial accidents. He is a fellow of the American Board of Sleep Medicine.

His research has included schizophrenia, seizure disorder, learning disability, and closed head injury and is currently focused on the impact of legal and compensability factors on neuropsychological performance and verbal behavior.

In addition, Dr. Greiffenstein is on the review boards of the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology, Clinical Neuropsychologist, and Psychological Assessment. He is a reviewer for Neuropsychology Review, Journal of the International Neuropsychology Society, and Journal of Clinical Psychology.

Dr. Greiffenstein was the Director of Neuropsychology Services at the Allen Park (now Detroit) VA Medical Center in Michigan; he currently maintains clinical responsibilities at Mercy-Memorial Hospital and St. John Hospital in Michigan. Nationally respected among his peers, Dr. Greiffenstein was featured in Robert Heilbronner’s Forensic Neuropsychology Casebook, in his chapter “A Dialogue with Manfred F. Greiffenstein.”
