Bernice A. Marcopulos, Ph.D., ABPP
Bernice A. Marcopulos, Ph.D., ABPP is an internationally respected clinical and forensic neuropsychologist with a rich background of case experience and cross-cultural literacy. Dr. Marcopulos is the Director of the Western State Hospital Neuropsychology Laboratory in Staunton, Virginia. Her activities include forensic, psychological testing, and neuropsychological assessment and treatment of patients with comorbid neurological and psychiatric illness. In addition, she develops and implements cognitive remediation for a hospital-wide psychosocial rehabilitation program.
An Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia, School of Medicine. Dr. Marcopulos is Board Certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in Clinical Neuropsychology. Dr. Marcopulos’ research and scholarly interests include developing appropriate norms and cut-offs for symptom validity tests for use in forensic psychiatry settings, diagnosis of dementia in rural elders with low levels of education, assessment and the remediation of cognitive dysfunction in schizophrenia.
Dr. Marcopulos has written a number of important reference articles and book chapters covering such important topics such as the neuropsychological evaluation of competency to proceed. Earlier in her career, Dr. Marcopulos was a Fulbright Scholar who taught neuropsychological assessment in clinical psychology at the Polish Academy of Science in conjunction with the University of Warsaw.
